Many types of laser treatments are routinely performed at Grossnickle
Eye Center including using the most advanced techniques for repairing
and treating conditions of the eye. Lasers produce narrow beams of light
that can be precisely directed to all parts of the eye. They can produce
excellent results with minimal disruption of the surrounding tissues.
Grossnickle Eye Center is also equipped with four types of lasers
designed specifically for treating conditions of the eye: the Excimer
laser used for LASIK, the argon laser, the YAG laser and the Selecta II
glaucoma laser. Conditions that respond well to laser treatment include:
Glaucoma: Typically, elevated eye pressure is managed medically,
however; lasers can be helpful in opening multiple microscopic fluid
channels in the eye.
Cloudy Membranes: Lasers can open the cloudy membranes that can result
months to years after cataract surgery.
Retinal Tears: Lasers are used to seal the edges of a torn retina,
preventing retinal detachment.
Retinal Disorders: Lasers are valuable tools in controlling damage to
retinal blood vessels due to diabetes or other causes.
