I've worn glasses and contacts since I was about seven years old. And, frankly, I was getting a little tired of not being able to see when I would play with my kids in the pool. But, like most people, I was concerned whether LASIK was safe or whether it would last. By last year, I felt convinced that enough people had successfully completed the procedure and that it was here to stay.
In choosing a doctor, I wasn't really comfortable trying to save a few dollars by going to one of those discount places. Friends told me I could get LASIK preformed for $600-$700 per eye. However, when I looked into it, they often did not cover enhancements, astigmatism or the level of care after the procedure. What if the laser center didn't get it right the first time? I had heard about Grossnickle Eye Center and knew they had a great reputation. They certainly did a wonderful job educating me about the procedure and telling me exactly what to expect. If I had any concerns beforehand, after meeting with my nurse, I felt I was making the right decision. After my surgery, I was surprised how well I could see immediately. I had been told to expect some blurriness after LASIK, but I could see remarkably well. I was also a bit worried because I had astigmatism and thought that might mean my outcome wouldn't be as good. When I went in the next day for my follow-up visit, I was 20/15! Now, when I drive with my husband, I can read road signs long before he can. I love to tell him that our exit is coming up. When we get close enough for him read it, he's dumbfounded: "How could you see that already?" he'll say. For me, LASIK vision correction really was the best money I've ever spent.
